Description

One of the main bottlenecks we have identified, and upon which this NUTRISOIL project is based, is the depleted state and quality of urban and peri-urban agricultural soil. A large portion of urban waste is rich in decomposable organic carbon and can be used to improve soil microbiota function, counteract acidification, and enhance soil quality and nutrient cycle efficiency. To increase UA through resource circularity, we need to preserve and increase soil organic matter while recovering nutrients from waste.

The objective of NUTRISOIL is to clearly identify, address, and overcome soil-related obstacles for the sustainable implementation of urban agriculture in cities through a series of experiments to demonstrate soil recovery and fertilization. Additionally, we would like the AMB as an entity to help us host/coordinate a knowledge transfer exchange workshop between farmers, composting facilities, wastewater treatment plants, administration, policymakers, and various government associations involved in the nutrient cycle throughout the city.

The project would cover the costs associated with the workshop, but we need the support and backing of the AMB to provide political and social weight to the knowledge transfer and make a transition to this new circularity and UA model feasible.
